The 19-minute mockumentary “Carson Street” invites viewers to join a playful search for the origins of Pittsburgh’s Carson Street.

Professor Emeritus John Carson’s “Carson Street” is being showcased at the TULCA 2024 Arts Festival in Galway, Ireland, which runs through November 17. The 19-minute mockumentary dives into Carson’s personal quest to uncover the history behind the naming of Carson Street in Pittsburgh, where he spent 15 years without ever quite knowing its origins. Through humorous curbside interviews, chats with residents and business owners, archive visits, and consultations with experts, Carson’s exploration takes him across Pennsylvania, eventually leading him to Philadelphia.

Edited by Erin Mallea (MFA ’19), with animations by Khushi Nandgaonkar (BFA ’22), Carson Street comes to TULCA in its 22nd year as Galway’s premier contemporary arts festival. TULCA brings together local and international artists in venues across the city, using art to engage audiences with the complexities of contemporary life.
